“Be a good boy and take care of Pinkie, m’kay? I’ll be right back.”
Even though Tedd had left minutes ago, Jacee was still frowning, his grip on the feeding bottle unnecessarily tight.Ever since Pinky had appeared, his master’s attention had been divided between him and his new creation, and not fairly enough for Jacee to overlook it. Everything was about Pinky lately. Tests. Needing some sort of babysitter-mother to take care of him. He had even been involved (although rarely) in sex ever since his master discovered that his pain and fear were genuine, unlike his.Jealousy consumed him whenever Tedd had to excuse himself and reluctantly look after whatever this stupid creature was.He came out wrong. He’s not anywhere near as good as you are, his master had reassured him.Slurp slurp. But it wasn’t Pinky being better than him that worried him.Gulp.It was the idea that Tedd would never spend time with him like he used to again—that this would lead to many other creations, and he would no longer be special. Abandonment.Slurp slurp. This one had been a failure, but what if the next one wasn’t? What if they ended up being even better than him? The clock was ticking, and he was running out of time.“Stop that.”Gulp.All because of this stupid, broken thing that rested in his arms, with his (its? Jacee wasn’t sure anymore) belly full of milk and his innocent lamb-like eyes. He even started sucking on his thumb as he looked at him, and it made 148 feel humiliated. Like he was being made fun of.Pinky had barely been able to finish drinking his milk when Jacee kneed him, and his small body fell to the ground so easily that it only annoyed him even more. Pinky looked like a deer in the headlights, taken aback by his violence, and God, how he hated that expression on his face. He was insufferable, dependent to a fault, yet he didn’t seem to understand that being used and hurt had been his purpose all along.Perhaps he was expecting too much from him, Jacee reasoned as those blue eyes looked up at him in a mix of confusion and uneasiness. The kick that followed was heavier and with more intent. Something was swirling in his chest—a rage and disgust barely contained, and it wanted out. Was this what was left of his humanity? Or was this just the rage of a rabid dog ready to maul its prey?Whatever it was, Pinky had become aware of it.“Jacee don’t understand…”He took hold of the creature’s body, and his hands squeezed the sides of his stomach so hard that, for a moment, Jacee thought he’d crush his lungs. If he focused, he could feel every little organ inside him, his heart hammering inside his chest like a tiny drum. Thump. Thump. Thump.“A-Ack!” Pinky was gagging, wordlessly begging him to stop, and despite everything, Jacee couldn’t feel anything but sick satisfaction at the sight of his face going pale. Was this how Tedd felt towards him? He understood the appeal now.“How Master created you and Jacee…” he concluded. The sound of retching filled the room before Pinky threw up all over his own chest, non-digested milk he’d barely gotten to enjoy, and the stench made him scrunch his nose in disgust before dropping him to the ground.Slowly, Pinky breathed again. It was funny. Jacee wanted to be a mother so badly. But in his eyes, 336 was a failure and, at the same time, too much of a threat to consider him a child. Still, wasn’t it something similar to motherly compassion that made him want to destroy him, too? Some animals killed their offspring when they became sick.Maybe he was just trying to convince himself that he was somehow sparing the poor thing.Jacee didn’t know what expression he was making as he prepared to kick him again. He wished he had a mirror to see it. But the pure horror in Pinky’s eyes before clumsily getting up and starting to run said more than enough about it. He didn’t have to look him in the eye to know he was crying, the frantic, terrified uh-uhs coming from his lips only confirming his thoughts.“Come here!”It wasn’t hard for Jacee to catch him. A few long strides were enough to sink his teeth into Pinky’s neck, feel the soft skin against his canines, and almost immediately, the sound of retching filled the room as white vomit fell in front of him again. Of course. Jacee had to take a deep breath not to drop 336 again, forcing himself to stare at the liquid instead. It almost made him feel bad for him; the way Pinky’s cries for help intensified in fear of what would come next, how he was more worried about not being able to escape than the fact that he’d thrown up. Almost. He shook his head frantically, as if he were discarding the idea entirely. Tedd’s attention was above everything else. If Jacee had to get rid of his latest experiment to have it all for himself, then so be it. He would be the only one.His face got splattered with blood once he dug his teeth into Pinky’s heart, but Jacee was too focused on the sweet taste to care about it. It was as if that part of him, that human part, had disappeared entirely as he grunted and ate messily. Blood mixed with saliva and little threads of blood united his mouth with the heart each time he took a new bite. The need to feed had been so overwhelming that 148 hadn’t heard the sound of someone behind the door until Tedd was already in the room. However, when he noticed he wasn’t alone, his tail—which he’d been wagging during the bloodbath—perked up as he turned his head.“I guess someone got too hungry.” He didn’t sound angry, but he certainly didn’t sound as playful as usual. His expression as he scanned the room was illegible, but the way his gaze lingered on the broken test tubes didn’t go unnoticed by 148 either, making him lower his head in embarrassment. There were a few moments of silence where Jacee was completely still before his Master spoke again. “Just clean your mess.”****He could barely feel his tongue anymore after licking Pinky’s remains, all while Tedd silently worked. It was weird—he should be overjoyed now that 336 wasn’t around anymore, and he was to some extent. Tedd had even concealed Pinky’s corpse with a trash bag, something that in other circumstances would’ve probably made him wag his tail for hours. But he hadn’t planned that his Master would give him the silent treatment once he came back.“You’re done? Good.” Even the few words he did say to him sounded cold. “You can go to bed then.”Bed… Yes, he was pretty tired after all this. Laying down with his Master sounded good, Jacee thought as he followed behind him out of the laboratory. And his body was always so warm, and he would pet his hair for minutes if he felt like being a bit more affectionate that day.Unfortunately, Tedd didn’t seem to agree with the idea.“Why don’t you sleep on the crate tonight, hm?”148 grimaced. “But Jacee…” he tried to argue.Of course, his Master wouldn’t hear it. It hadn’t been a question.“Goodnight.”He didn’t know if he hated more that goodnight or how Tedd had left him to take care of Pinky.Still, once he laid down inside his kettle with no one but himself to comfort him, the thought that Pinky was finally dead came back to him. Tedd could ignore him all he wanted (hopefully not for long), but that wouldn’t make 336 come back. He wasn’t like him, and he’d proven it.There was comfort in that. Enough to make him start to get sleepy, although with his ears perked up in case his Master changed his mind. In case he decided to pet his hair and congratulate him for how strong and perfect he was. He’d get there one day. There was still time.
